‘Self-glowing’ traffic signs to reduce traffic accidents

ManamaWith the increasing complaints about “dark” roads in different areas of the Kingdom, the Northern Area Municipal Council councillors announced that a new “glow-in-the-dark” paint would be used to draw traffic instructions on roads.

The move was revealed during a meeting held by the council members yesterday, in the absence of Chairman Muhammed Buhamood, who left the Kingdom a few days ago to perform the rite of Hajj in Saudi Arabia.

During the meet, the councillors agreed to a proposal submitted by the council’s Deputy Chairman Ahmed Al Kooheji regarding roads planning, and suggested to use “self-glowing paint” on roads, roadsides, pedestrian cross points and speed breakers.

The councillors endorsed the proposal as they said “it would contribute to the reduction of traffic accidents, enhancing traffic safety, cutting cost and saving energy.”

The discussion followed repeated complaints about broken street lights in different areas of the governorate, mainly due to vandalism acts, which often result in the increase of traffic accidents during night time.

The latest incident was reported on Saturday, when an accident occurred in Jidhafs due to poor street lighting and resulted in the death of an 11-year-old Bahraini boy.

The councillors also discussed establishing a museum to showcase the different stages of establishing Hamad Town in the 1980s. It was said that the museum would preserve the history of Hamad Town and contribute to tourism in the Kingdom.
