Amal Rafea turns first Bahraini to win coveted Mansion House Scholarship

ManamaAmal Rafea has become the first Bahraini to win the prestigious Mansion House Scholarship since the scheme was first established in 1998.

British Ambassador Simon Martin CMG received Rafea at his residence here to congratulate her on being awarded the coveted scholarship.

This will support her pursuit of an MSc International Business Management degree at the University of Kent in the autumn.

The scholarship is generally awarded to those in the countries, which the Lord Mayor of the City of London is visiting in any one year. This year’s scholarship follows the visit of the Lord Mayor Jeffrey Mountevans to Bahrain in March.

The British Embassy in Bahrain and the British Council Bahrain worked jointly on raising awareness of the scholarship as well as the overall selection process.

The Mansion House Scholarship Scheme funds scholarships for students and young business executives from overseas to travel to the United Kingdom to study or to undertake training or work experience in the Financial Services Sector.

Awards are made at the personal recommendation of the Lord Mayor. Over 140 scholarships have now been awarded by successive Lord Mayors over the past 17 years, with recipients selected from 59 countries.
