467 theft cases reported at airport in last year

Manama  : As many as 467 cases of airport thefts were reported in 2015, revealed a senior Interior Ministry official yesterday. 

According to Bahrain International Airport Police Director Colonel Abdulaziz Abdulrahman Al Dossairi, many of the thefts happened in the Duty Free area. 

“We are trying to identify the thieves by analysing the CCTV visuals. They are referred to the Public Prosecution. If the culprits manage to leave the country, we will try to make an arrest in the destination country,” Colonel Al Dossairi told Interior Ministry’s Publication Al Amn

Recalling an incident, he said that a traveller reported $14,000 missing as he was boarding a flight to Cairo.

“The Egyptian police were alerted. The suspects were questioned on landing and the money was recovered,” he added.  

According to the statistics revealed, officers have inspected 11,183,912 bags and detected 5,440 violations at the airport.
