Ateeq bags three gold
Manama : Bahrain national team weightlifter Sarah Ateeq won three gold medals and improved her personal record, which she had previously set in a training camp in July and August in Bahrain, on the second day in the women’s competition at the Afro-Asian Weightlifting Championships in Amman, Jordan.
Ateeq was successful in the clean and jerk after three attempts had raised the weight to 76kg and also picked up three bronze medals.
She expressed delight at her performance and thanked the leadership and sports bodies for their support of women’s sports, particularly Bahrain Weightlifting and Physical Education Association President Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa, who has encouraged the development of talent for events such as this.
Ateeq joined Zahra Mahfoodh who reached the podium in winning bronze medals on the opening day.
