Four men detained in robbery case

ManamaFour men belonging to the same family have been held in connection with attempting to rob a gold shop in East Riffa, the High Criminal Court heard yesterday.

The four masked men are said to have barged into the shop holding hammers. One of them is said to have hit the head of the Indian man working in the shop, while another man attempted to take away the gold pieces.

However, the Indian expat managed to get hold of one of the culprits and called the police immediately, according to court files.

“I called my nephew and my cousin and we agreed to steal the shop. I asked my brother to drive us to the shop but I didn’t inform him about our intention,” the 25-year-old first defendant told prosecutors.

He revealed to them that three of them attacked the shop, while the fourth stayed outside surveying the area in order to give them a signal in the event a customer came to the shop.

The defendants are in police custody, pending their trial. They were charged with robbery and assault.
