Three men held for illegal car stunts

ManamaAs part of its clampdown on illegal car stunts, the General Directorate of Traffic arrested yesterday three reckless drivers, who were seen in a video performing dangerous manoeuvres in their cars in Hamad Town.

The video, which was widely circulated on local social media networks, showed the drivers performing the stunts at an intersection near a residential area in Al Luzi (Hamad Town, Roundabout 9) at night. It eventually led to their arrest.

In a statement, the Interior Ministry said: “Following reports on social media about an illegal car stunt, the General Directorate of Traffic has arrested three persons for their involvement in such illegal activities in Al Luzi area.” “They were referred to the Public Prosecution after legal procedures had been taken.”

“The General Directorate of Traffic has asserted the importance of following traffic rules to protect lives and property, while pledging zero tolerance against violators whose illegal practices could harm the drivers and other road users,” it added.

The arrest came as part of a campaign launched by the authorities to curb illegal street racing and stunts, which claimed the life of a Bahraini and injured over 10 people last month.

It’s worth noting that a reckless Bahraini driver was arrested in Hidd on August 15, after a footage showing him performing stunts in public went viral online.

Meanwhile, in another incident, two Bahrainis sustained grievous injuries when they lost control of their vehicle during an illegal roadshow in Buquwa on Friday.
