It’s viral! Man pushes giant calcium stone out of mouth

Manama : A gruesome footage showing a Bahrain resident pushing a giant salivary stone out of his mouth went viral on social media yesterday. The mass is pretty much made up of calcium and it’s seen poking through from under his tongue.

The video was widely circulated that even some of the leading British and international newspapers, including Daily Mail, The Sun, The Daily Star and The Daily Mirror have reported the story. The video amassed close to 400,000 views in a day.

In the 30-second clip, Douglas, reportedly an American citizen, is seen trying to squeeze out a white object from his submandibular duct. The long white stone took almost 10 seconds to come out.

“I had some swelling on my sublingual gland, which is right under the tongue. It had some pus/mucus stuff coming out. Dentist said it was probably a stone developing. Four days later I end up pushing it out. I guess it’s from not staying hydrated and some other factors. I stay pretty hydrated so I hope it was a fluke,” Douglas responded to befuddled netizens.

Douglas posted the video on Reddit and it has received over 800 comments.

“I am a nurse working in the operating room and I’ve seen several sialoendoscopy’s (the procedure to remove these stones from mouths) and none of them have been this big,” a Reddit user commented.

“This stomach-churning video could qualify as one of the worst spot-popping videos ever,” a Daily Star editor said.

Salivary stones are structures that form when saliva calcifies. It forms inside a salivary gland or duct and blocks the flow of spit into the mouth.
