Back home after 13 years in Saudi jails
Manama : A Bahraini man who has been jailed in Saudi Arabia for 13 years over terrorism-related charges finally returned home on Tuesday, DT News has learnt.
Abdulraheem Al Murbati, who has been languishing in Saudi jails since June 16, 2003, on the grounds of the deadly bombings that struck Riyadh in the same month, returned to Bahrain on Tuesday, a local human rights activist confirmed.
This was confirmed by Bahrain Human Rights Watch Society (BHRWS) General Secretary Faisal Fulad.
Fulad, who has been following Al Murbati’s case for almost a decade, said, “I congratulate Al Murbati and his family members and wish him a happy life.”
However, Fulad refrained from making any further comments and did not confirm whether Al Murbati was permanently released or handed over to the Bahraini authorities to serve the remaining of his 15-year jail term here.
Several appeals were made to release Al Murbati since he was arrested in 2003, especially that his relatives claimed that he was detained with no specific charges filed against him.
Family members even protested in the capital city on more than one occasion, demanding the authorities in Bahrain to interfere and release their son. However, the relatives were not available to comment on his release.
