Urbaser fully prepared to meet demand

ManamaUrbaser, the Spanish company tasked with waste collection and street cleaning services in the Northern and Southern municipalities, has announced that it is fully prepared for any increased demand for waste management.

In preparation for Eid, Urbaser had mobilised a special taskforce of workers who are targeting the cleaning of busy areas, including those surrounding mosques, in addition to gardens, beaches and other public areas that citizens will gather to celebrate holidays.

The company said it had extended its working hours in order to cope with the increased domestic waste collection demands in the two governorates, and deployed a number of extra compacting trucks, automated street sweepers and washers, as well as advanced bin washers from its fleet of service vehicles. Forty additional waste collection bins were also placed throughout the two governorates that the company serves.

Commenting on the initiatives, Luis De la Campa, General Manager of Urbaser Bahrain, said: “Urbaser will ensure that the areas we serve are cleaned before, and will be cleaned during, and after the celebrations.”

“In addition, an increased workforce and fleet, Urbaser is closely monitoring each bin, truck, and street in the Northern and Southern Governorates,” he added.

The advanced satellite tracking system being used by Urbaser allows the company to track the waste management services it provides in Bahrain in infinite detail. The system can pinpoint the position of all of its waste collection trucks at any given time, can calculate the weight of each individual bin collected, and the time it takes the trucks to complete their daily route.

The information Urbaser is collecting will shed light on Bahrain’s waste disposal habits, and help Urbaser and the Ministry work together to create the foundation for a waste management infrastructure that is tailored to meet the Kingdom’s real waste management needs.

According to the system, Urbaser is collecting 1,100 plus tonnes of domestic waste daily from the two governorates, which exceeds the expected 900 tonnes the company was initially tasked to collect.

In addition to implementing advanced systems, Urbaser has also recently launched a 24-hour Customer Call Centre designed to further improve its service to customers in the Northern and Southern Governorates.

The centre, which has been operational since August 1, allows customers to speak to Urbaser directly about the services in their area, as well as request pick-ups for bulky items or green waste. Customers in the Northern and Southern municipalities can contact Urbaser’s customer care line on 80070000.
