Award winner thanks Premier

ManamaAnna Kajumulo Tibaijuka expressed her profound gratitude to Prime Minister HRH  Prince  Khalifa  bin Salman  Al  Khalifa for being bestowed the “His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa Sustainable Development Award”.

The Premier received a letter of thanks from Professor Tibaijuka, the former Tanzanian Minister for Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, former UN Undersecretary and former Executive Director of the UN-Habitat.

“I thank Your Royal Highness for this recognition and promise that in return I shall continue to work hard in pursuit of the noble goals of the Award, helping communities attain sustainable development,” she wrote. “Having worked successfully at international level, your recognition has come both as an incentive but also as a new challenge for me to deliver prosperity and sustainability in my own community.” she stated.

Tibaijuka received congratulatory messages from many officials from the United Nations and senior political figures in Tanzania, civil society organisations, academics, parliamentarians, senior government officials. 

She emphasised that the conferment of the Award at the UNHQ in New York is an appropriate and fitting occasion because over the years, her colleagues there had witnessed firsthand the many initiatives, which she had initiated at UN-HABITAT.

She pointed out that a delegation is in the process of making arrangements to select a few representatives to accompany her to the grand Award ceremony in New York.

Professor Tibaijuka in her letter also  extended an invitation to the Prime Minister to visit the region of Kagera and her constituency of Muleba South, on the western shores of Lake Victoria, to see firsthand challenges that must be overcome to deliver the Strategic Development Goals (SDGs).
