Development, peace are inseparable: HRH Premier
Manama: Development and peace are inseparable, said Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, warning that current wars, conflicts and terrorism would destroy the resources of nations and compromise the future of coming generations.
The statement was part of a keynote address marking the International Day of Peace on September 21. The 2016 edition of the day will be celebrated under the theme “The Sustainable Development Goals: Building Blocks for Peace.”
The Prime Minister warned against the pitfalls of conflicts raging in parts of the world on the present and future of humanity, which, he said, stands at a dangerous turning point.
Prince Khalifa urged collective action to maintain peace and provide the basic needs for all peoples in the world to live in security, calling upon the international community to focus on sustainable development, the cornerstone of lasting peace.
Bahrain’s commitment to improve humanitarian situation and achieve stability stems from the firm belief in collective responsibility to protect the world from chaos and destruction, the Premier added.
“Bahrain, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, has succeeded in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs),” PM said, reiterating determination to meet the UN sustainable developments objectives.
The Premier called for effective measures to confront security, political and economic challenges, which are plaguing the Middle East and achieve peace in this highly volatile and untenable region of the world.
Prince Khalifa also warned against the brewing crises in certain Arab countries, which is characterised by entangled and interests and relations.
The Prime Minister called upon the world to join hands to combat the multifaceted terrorism which is spreading its tentacles and taking a heavy toll on human lives and properties.
In his message to the world, the Premier stressed the importance of steering the world away from any ethnic, racial or religious-tainted divisions.
Prince Khalifa highlighted Bahrain’s development march which focuses on the economic, social, educational, housing and health facets.
The PM also commended the UN-led efforts to bolster international cooperation and promote global peace for all peoples to develop and prosper.
