Consensual sex: Court overturns acquittal

Manama :  The High Criminal Appeals Court overturned the acquittal of a man accused of having consensual sex with a 20-year-old girl, sentencing him to one year behind the bars.
It was the woman who reported the case to the police, after the defendant sent some of her obscene images to her father. The girl initially said a hacker managed to access her computer’s hard disk and stole the images and then shared them with her father.
However, when the latter took her to the police in order to file a case, the girl revealed that she was having a seven-year-long affair with the defendant. She added that he sent the images to her father after differences surfaced between them, because of which she decided to dump him.
“We had sex for almost 100 times in the past two years, and I lost my virginity to him because I thought he was the one I would get married to,” the girl told prosecutors when she filed the case in 2013.
“The first time we met behind our house, and then I used to go to his home when everybody was asleep to have sex,” she added, revealing to police that she sent him 200 naked images of her.
The defendant was also reportedly in possession of a set of nude photos of the victim’s sister, which too he sent to their father.
“Every time we have problems he threatens me to send my images, and this time he did it, using a Malaysian number because he was studying in Malaysia,” the girl explained.
The High Criminal Court had initially acquitted him due to lack of evidence as he refuted the accusations against him.
