Drug smuggling: remand extended

Manama :A court has extended the remand of a Bahraini couple accused of being part of a drug smuggling network by another 15 days, pending
trial.
According to the court documents, the duo was arrested at the Bahrain International Airport while trying to smuggle drugs. These reportedly included 14,260 grams of
shabu as well as 12 narcotic pills.
The police have been keeping tabs on them after a tip-off revealed the involvement of the couple in the drug smuggling network.
The woman told prosecutors earlier that the drugs were
given to them by a Bahraini man in Malaysia and he requested them to take it with them to the
Kingdom.
But, her lawyer told judges in the second hearing that she was not aware that her husband was smuggling drugs, pleading the court to grant her bail.
However, the court ordered the woman and her husband
to be remanded in police custody.
