Urbaser to contain waste disposal crisis in Kingdom
Manama : Around 1500 tonnes of waste is being removed from the Northern and Southern Governorates on a daily basis, a top Government official stated yesterday.
“This figure is around 500 tonnes more in comparison with the phase when the previous company, Sphinx, was in charge.” Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam Khalaf confirmed.
The minister’s statements came during the reception of Parliament’s Services Committee members, councillors and directors of both governorates’ municipalities yesterday.
In the meeting, Khalaf affirmed that the crisis was contained by the new cleaning company, Urbaser, within one month.
“We have a new fleet of machinery and equipment, including 20 vehicles to clean streets, 6 dustbins washing vehicles and we’re expecting new cost cleaning equipment by next month,” the minister told. The minister, MPs, councillors and the other officials visited several sites to review the waste disposal processes in both governorates.
