Man's jail term reduced in sexual abuse case

ManamaThe High Criminal Appeals Court reduced the sentence issued against a man convicted of sexually abusing a minor boy.

The court found the defendant guilty despite his lawyer’s insistence that the case against was malicious.

She was referring to the evidences raised against the defendant, all of which were based on the testimonies of the victim’s brothers and mother.

“There were contradictions in the statements of the witnesses. They said that the incident happened six months ago, but the mother revealed that her son didn’t visit the defendant’s house for almost nine months. So this leads us to the question how did the incident occur?” the lawyer said in her closing argument.

The accused was earlier sentenced to three years in prison, but the appeals court reduced it to one year.
