Bahrain lose to Singapore

ManamaBahrain yesterday were beaten by 10 wickets against Singapore at the Kelab Aman Ground in the Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in its fourth and final Group A match of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Under-19 Cricket World Cup Asia Qualifier Division 2 qualifiers.

This was the fourth defeat for Bahrain in the round-robin phase after losing initially to hosts Malaysia by nine wickets, Saudi Arabia by 57 runs and Qatar by 86 runs.

Batting first, Bahrain were dismissed for 84 in 33.4 overs with Mohammed Haris Khan (17) and wicket keeper Jagan Vijaykumar (16) the only players to reach double figures, the wickets were claimed by B Ansh (three for 20), Janak Prakash (three for 29), R Rohan (two for eight) and GA Anchan (two for 16).

Singapore knocked off the runs and reached the target scoring of 86 without loss in 11.5 overs thanks to R Rohan (53 off 46 deliveries, 5x4 and 3x6) along with Abdul Rahman (27 off 25, 3x4).

The qualifiers (over 50 overs per innings) continue until today with 10 teams in two groups in the fray on a round-robin basis with the minor placings from fifth to tenth matches on Tuesday. The semi-finals on Wednesday and the two winners playing off for the title on Thursday.

Group A: Malaysia 82 for 5 in 23.4 overs bt Saudi Arabia 80 all out in 40.1 overs. 

Group B: UAE 243 for 7 in 50 overs bt Oman 64 all out in 29.1 overs.
