Tenders launched to build 1,246 housing units

ManamaA tender to implement the first phase of the Al-Ramli Housing Project, comprising 1,246 units and funded by the Gulf Development Programme, has been launched at the Tender Board’s headquarters, Minister of Housing, Basim Alhamer announced.

The representatives of Housing Ministry, the Finance Ministry and the Saudi Development Fund attended the meeting.

The move is the first official step to implement such a strategic project, which is one of the key projects included in the Government Action Plan (GAP) to build 25,000 units, and stemming from the Royal Directives to construct 40,000 units, he added.

The minister pointed out that 12 contractors from Bahrain and Saudi Arabia met the requirements and participated in the tender.

Alhamer noted that as soon as the tender is awarded, the project site will be provided with the necessary equipment to begin the construction work.

He added that the tender related to the infrastructure of the project will be launched before the end of this year, and the tenders of the second phase will follow later, according to the time frame of the project.

The minister explained that when construction works begin at Al-Ramli Project, the Housing Ministry will be implementing four projects simultaneously, namely the Northern City, East Hidd City and the Southern Governorate Housing Project, in addition to Al-Ramli.

This happens for the first time and proves the government’s determination to speed up building housing units for the citizens whose names feature in the waiting lists, he said.

The minister paid tribute to the Saudi Development Fund for its fruitful cooperation with the Government of Bahrain, represented by the Housing Ministry, to implement housing projects through the fund provided by Saudi Arabia through the Gulf Development Programme which, he said, has contributed significantly to speed up construction at many new cities and strategic projects in the Kingdom.
