Online job listings in Bahrain on the rise

ManamaOnline job listings in Bahrain for August saw an increase of 14 per cent over the past year, a study revealed.

Among the Gulf nations, only Bahrain and Oman recorded a year-on-year increase of employment opportunities posted online in August, according to Monster Employment Index (MEI) compiled by Monster.com.

The index is a monthly gauge of online job posting activities in Middle-East based on a real-time review of employer job opportunities culled from career web sites and online job listings.

“From the GCC countries analysed, the latest MEI records that Bahrain and Oman are the only nations to register year-on-year growth in August 2016 with a 14pc increase in online recruitment activity observed in Bahrain, followed by 8pc in Oman,” Monster Employment Index (MEI) report said.

Bahrain led the chart as the growth momentum improved three points from 11pc in July 2016. Oman, on the other hand, saw annual growth rate moderate two points. Both these countries registered a month-on-month decline in online hiring.

Saudi Arabia, which saw a 2pc annual drop, registered a positive monthly growth. The year-on-year growth rate even though negative, moved closer to the year-ago level. This is the least decline recorded since March 2016.

E-recruitment activity in UAE, which has slumped 24pc, maintained a downward trend. In the past six months between February and August 2016, there has been a 31pc drop in available online opportunities in the country, the report stated.

Online hiring activity in Kuwait declined 18pc below August 2015 following a 10pc year-on-year growth in July 2016. Qatar also witnessed a negative year-on-year growth,  declining 26pc.
