MP calls for hiring of jobless grads

ManamaThe hiring list of 1,912 university graduates as part of Tamkeen’s training programme is long overdue, said MP Abdulhameed Al Najar yesterday. “It’s unbelievable that they are being trained, then integrated into the ministry for many years and after the expiration of their temporary contracts they return to the list of unemployment,” the MP pointed out.

According to Al Najar, many of those graduates are married and they have financial commitments towards their family and children. “It’s unfathomable that these graduates are not hired after the expiry of their contracts, especially when they are placed in positions that suit their degree,” he said.

However, Al Najar praised the recent directives of Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa to appoint 23 temporary staff as full time employees at the Works, Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry.

The MP also praised the instructions by the Prime Minister to extend training for 66 citizens for another three months after the expiry of their temporary contracts.

Al Najar added that the Premier’s decision had saved 23 families from unemployment and homelessness, providing them with a decent livelihood.

He called for more coordinated efforts between Tamkeen and the Works, Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry to provide permanent jobs for the 1,912 university graduates to have a decent livelihood.
