Construction projects rise in Bahrain

Manama : The number of construction licences has surged over the past nine months, according to municipal authorities.

According to updated statistics, a total of 817 permits have been issued since January, up from 570 over the same period.

The construction of the approved investment projects is estimated at BD1.350 billion, up from BD567 million. Once completed, the investment projects will cover around 4.9m square metres, compared with two million square metres over the same period in 2015.

The overall municipal fees levied on issued construction permits more than doubled in the first nine months of this year to exceed BD2m, up from BD900,000.

The updated statistics were released by Deputy Premier Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa during his visit to the Comprehensive Municipal Council yesterday.

“The surge in the overall number of construction permits over the past nine years reflects Bahrain’s administrative and technical preparedness for mega investment projects,” Shaikh Khalid remarked.

The Deputy Premier also inaugurated the new-look electronic system, which was designed to fast-track the processing of the applications for construction permits.
