Couple’s remand renewed again in drug case
Manama : The remand of a Bahraini couple accused of being part of a drug smuggling network has been renewed again by another 15 days, pending the case.
According to court files, the duo were arrested at the Bahrain International Airport while trying to smuggle 14,260 grams of shabu as well as 12 narcotic pills.
They were held after police kept tab of their moves following a tip-off to them that the couple were part of a drug smuggling network.
The woman told prosecutors earlier that the drugs were given to them by a Bahraini man in Malaysia and he requested them to take them with them into Bahrain.
However, her lawyer told judges in the second hearing of the trial that she wasn’t aware that her husband was smuggling drugs. So she pleaded for granting her bail. But the couple were ordered to be remanded in police custody by the court.
