Women caught shoplifting

ManamaSwift and timely action by police officers helped a jeweller retrieve BD400 worth gold ornaments from an all-woman gang yesterday.

The women, all belonging to the same family in Sitra, were caught after they stole valuables by posing as customers.

The jeweller, an Asian, found that gold jewellery worth BD400 was missing after the women left.

Growing suspicious about the women, the shopkeeper alerted the police immediately. The authorities swung into action and formed a special investigation team to probe the incident.

“While going through the CCTV footage, we found these women, two of them with their faces covered, enter the shop,” an officer said.

“Some of the women engaged the man in small talk while the others formed a ‘wall’ so that he is unable to see what is going on.

“We then saw one of the women signalling another after which the latter took a bracelet. This action was repeated twice and two bracelets were gone,” the officer added.

The officers scanned the footage against the database of the Central Informatics Systems and found the identity of the culprits. The suspects were nabbed based on the information from their CPR cards, the officer said.

“The women were repeat offenders,” he added.

He also urged traders to set up CCTV cameras.
