Peace on wheels

ManamaThe idea of taking a trip around the world might sound like a near impossible dream if you’re not rich. The very thought of travelling the world in a car will strike as a nightmare to many, but a Romanian couple has taken this feat to a whole different level and made it a reality.

Unlike other travellers, Mohammed Stefan Leca and his wife Noor Anamariah, has a certain addition to this adventurous journey – spreading the message of peace to a varied course of people and culture. The couple travelled across 150 countries, on a mission to unfold the word – ‘Islam is Peace’.

Starting their journey from their native place Romania, the couple was given a very warm send off by their fellow citizens. “This trip is like a self-realisation, going to places we do not know, meeting people from different sects, culture and creed.  The excitement is more than enough to keep you going.” Leca, a Christian turned Muslim,  told DT News.

The car in which the couple travels is well equipped and it serves their purpose while travelling around the world. Painted in red and marked the word ‘PEACE’ in bold attracts people all around the world.

The message of Love

The couple are very excited about getting their message across to diverse cultures outside the Middle East. They are not on a mission to convert people, but hope to plant the seed of knowledge from which could grow the tree of wisdom.

Leca believes that rather than approaching people and lecturing them on the aim of his travel, he try to evoke their curiosity. Whenever he reaches a country, he chooses a good spot to park his car. He then arranges the projectors, speakers and plays Islam messages. According to him their cause finds more interest, when people find out that they are from a non-Muslim country.

“For me Islam is a religion of peace, brotherhood and love. We currently live in an robotic age where the main intention of living is to make money and power. We ignore our family and run behind material possessions and I feel bad about it,” he said.

Helping hands

Throughout his world-tour, he had to overcome many hurdles such as thefts, break down of the car and running out of money. On the other hand, Leca remembers those who had helped and supported him to continue his journey during their hard times.

For Leca, Bahrain is one of his favourite countries. “I like the Bab-Al Bahrain the most because I feel that it is the entryway of culture, civilisation and religion of the Kingdom.”

Leca also took part in an earlier expedition walk in 1992 to promote peace. He travelled 40 countries by foot in  three years. “I was so inspired by a book of a French Writer Jules Verne, who used to travel around the world to spread the message of peace,” he said. The duo are now in the process of writing a book which will cover their entire trip and experiences.
