Daniela Ryf, Jan Frodeno shine

ManamaDaniela Ryf from Switzerland wiped out her competitors after being in the lead pack of the swimming and pushing the pace in the bike section for an eight-minute head start in the Ironman 70.3 world championships in Kailua-kona, Hawaai.

By the race end, Ryf was 20 minutes clear of runner-up Mirinda Carfrae and third-placer Heather Jackson.

The Swiss swam the 3.8km in 52 minutes 50 seconds, the 180kms (4 four and 52 minutes and 26 seconds) and running (2:56:52) in the marathon finishing (8:46:46) to beat Mirinda Carfrae 2014 course record by a little over five minutes.

Jan Frodeno  (8:06:30) set the pace through most of the swim, stayed in the front group on the bike, and trusted his legs would distance him from the field over the marathon.

Fellow Bahrain Endurance teammate Ben Hoffman finished just outside the top three, while Terenzo Bozzone withdrew. The rest of the Bahrain Endurance contingent finished safely.

Jodie Swallow crossed the line 22nd among the pro women. James Cunnama finished in 26th and Brent McMahon in 30th (just in front of Ryf).

David Plese ended up inside the top 20 for the first time, improving on his past Kona performances.

Supreme Council for Youth & Sport Chairman, Bahrain Olympic Committee President & Royal Charity  Organisation(RCO) Chairman HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa expressed pride in the achievements by Bahrain Endurance Team 13.
