Stray dog menace to be contained

ManamaThe first phase of their comprehensive campaign against the proliferation of stray dogs in residential areas has been begun by the  Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry.

A working group of various official bodies to address the stray dog issue has also been formed according to the ministry.

The campaign, in coordination between municipal councils, Interior Ministry and civil society institutions will be allocated in two phases in the areas affected by the  menace.

The first phase of the campaign involves catching dangerous stray dogs, which cannot be trained or adopted and contribute to the danger of residents in various residential areas. These dogs will be euthanised in a competent veterinary clinic.

The second phase involves catching stray dogs that do not constitute danger to individuals and will be put in safe refuge until adoptive individuals or families are found for necessary action.

The ministry will work continuously throughout the year to achieve its goal and has allocated workers and mechanisms for this purpose.
