10 men's jail sentence overturned in Daih bombing case
Manama : The Cassation Court, the Kingdom’s top court, overturned the sentences issued against 10 defendants convicted in connection with murdering three police officers in a bombing over two years ago.
Among the convicts, three defendants were sentenced to death, while the remaining received life imprisonment each. They were reportedly members of the so-called Saraya Al Ashtar (Al Ashtar Brigade).
Moreover, eight of them were stripped of their Bahraini citizenship. They were earlier fined a combined total of BD929.661 for the property damages caused by the bomb blast.
Their case will now be re-heard at the Supreme Appeals Court.
On the evening of March 3, 2014, the defendants planted three bombs near a mall in Daih to “kill as many policemen as possible.”
The blast killed three cops including 41-year-old Emirati officer First Lieutenant Tariq Al Shehhi. Other victims were 35-year-old Yemeni Ammar Abdu Ali Al Dhalei and 22-year-old Pakistani Muhammad Arslan Ramzan.
At least seven others were injured during the detonation which recorded the highest death toll suffered by security forces in a single attack since the 2011 unrest.
