Death of toddler: Doctor to testify

ManamaA forensic doctor will take the stand on November 15 to testify in the trial of a couple accused in the death of a four-month-old child.

According to forensic reports, a fatal blow on the child’s head caused the death. The child was in the custody of his father and stepmother at the time of the incident.

The step mother, a GCC national, appeared before the court yesterday for the second time with her infant who she delivered during her time in detention.

According to court documents, the father, a Bahraini citizen of Arab origins, got married to his co-defendant, and later tied the knot with his cousin, with whom he had the baby.

He later divorced the latter when problems surfaced. However, the child remained in the custody of the father and the step mother.

According to court files, the child was taken to hospital with head injuries. He succumbed to the wounds after four days, and the father blamed the wife for the death.

But the wife stated before the court that the father had punched the baby in the head because ‘he was crying a lot’. Both were held in police custody.
