Murder of girl: Father gets bail

Manama : A man implicated in the murder of his nine-year-old daughter has been granted bail by the High Criminal Court. The bail was granted on the  guarantee of his residence.

The father and step-mother of Hidd-resident  Zahra Fakhri were arrested in connection with the girl’s death. Court files say Zahra was brutally tortured by her parents, before she succumbed to fatal injuries caused by an iron rod attack. 

However, the 27-year-old step-mother yesterday refuted  the claims and affirmed before the court that the girl died after falling in the toilet. 

The step-mother also informed the court that the girl’s father was not at home at the time of the incident. This, however, contrasts with the statements made earlier by  Zahra’s teachers of Maryam bint Imran Primary School, who claimed that the girl was tortured brutally by her step-mother and father. 

Sources, who cannot be named, revealed to DT News that the child was attacked constantly by her father and step-mother. Even though, Zahra reported about the torture to the school’s administration and the principal, it was not reported to the police. Instead, the  principal forced the girl’s father to sign a pledge to stop torturing the girl.  

Sources also told DT News that the Principal warned the school teachers from interfering  or making any statement about or revealing about Zahra’s appeal for help.
