Court adjourns murder case trial

ManamaA Bangladeshi man accused of murdering his roommate has had his case adjourned until November 16. The High Criminal Court postponed the case to hear the testimony of prosecution witnesses.

The defendant is said to have slaughtered the victim after he allegedly insulted Islam.

The 29-year-old informed the people at a nearby mosque about the murder. He was later arrested after one of the worshippers called the police.

“He was covered with blood and holding a knife. Some worshippers in the mosque were able to calm him down,” a witness told prosecutors.

According to initial investigations, the man  committed the crime because his Hindu colleague was continually degrading Islam despite him expressing discontent.

“I told him on several occasions to stop mocking Islam. But he did not heed my request,” the man told prosecutors.

The defendant has been charged with deliberate murder.  Earlier, he requested the judges to hand him the death penalty.
