Jaideep breezes past Boruah

ManamaBahrain based Indian Rahul Jaideep (who is top seeded) defeated compatriot Jugal Boruah 6-3, 6-0 yesterday in the second qualifying round of the Eighth Bahrain International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior Championships at the Bahrain Tennis Club (BTC) premises in Juffair.

Four Bahrain players are in the main draw, seeded fifth is Ali Dawani, along with Yousif Ashraf, Hamad Abdul A’al and Elyas Abdulreza. 

Other Indian players to advance yesterday included Saarang Phadnis with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Saudi Arabia’s Mohammed Al Attas and Aaryan Zaveri over his compatriot Siddhant Mahala 6-0, 6-3.

The main competition for both boys and girls starts tomorrow and concludes on Saturday.

Top seed in the boys draw are Egypt’s Mohammed Gomaa (ranked 436), and second to fourth are Armin Rostum (Iran, 520), Adham Gaber (Egypt, 570) and Christian Linge (Norway, 673) and the girls are headed by Hala Khaled (Egypt, 359th), Hala Fouad (Egypt, 440), Sadaf Sadeghvazari (Iran, 604) and Alexandra Hunter (Great Britain, 675).

Today’s action features four final third qualifying matches atarting at 3.30pm. This event is being held under the patronage of the Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Mubarak bin Mohammed Al Khalifa with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, E K Kanoo and Solidarity Group.

Ahmed Al Hawaj from Bahrain will officiate at a home tournament after getting his international credentials back in 2009 in South Africa and will be assisted by a group of Bahrain line referees.
