Phadnis knocks out Jaideep

Manama : Saarang Phadnis of India knocked out top seed and compatriot and Bahrain-based Rahul Jaideep 6-2, 6-1 in the third and final qualifying round of the Boys singles yesterday of the Eighth Bahrain International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior Championships at the Bahrain Tennis Club (BTC) premises in Juffair.

In the other three matches played, Japan’s Yusuke Tamaki was a 6-2,  6-1 winner over Egyptian Hassan Yasser Abouseada, Ali Gulen of Turkey beat Saudi Arabian Waddah Al Jabr 6-2, 6-3 and Aaryan Zaveri from India was a 6-4 5-7 6-4 winner over Russian Ivan Zaytsev.

Four Bahrain players are in the main draw, seeded fifth is Ali Dawani, along with Yousif Ashraf, Hamad Abdul A’al and Elyas Abdulreza.

The main competition for both boys and girls starts today from 9am and includes three sessions in the morning and an afternoon session starting from 4pm.

Top seed in the boys draw are Egypt’s Mohammed Gomaa (ranked 436), and second to fourth are Armin Rostum (Iran, 520), Adham Gaber (Egypt, 570) and Christian Linge (Norway, 673).
