First meet of joint panel to counter terror held
Manama : In a bid to counter terrorism, the first meeting of the Bahraini-Indian Joint Steering Committee was held here yesterday. Bahrain and India had agreed to actively implement the counterterrorism agreement for which a joint committee was formed.
Interior Minister Lieutenant-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa and India’s Union Minister of Home Affairs, Rajnath Singh attended the meeting.
“We look forward to working together in the fight against terrorism and in strengthening our mutual and regional security,” Shaikh Rashid said. “The Joint Steering Committee should look at how we can work together to address challenges and follow up the progress of the agreed decision through exchange of visits and working to achieve common goals,” Shaikh Rashid added.
During the meeting, the two sides agreed to reinforce cooperation in exchange of information on ongoing terrorism-related investigations, including terrorism and drug trafficking, study youth extremism and the use of the Internet, further cooperation in e-security and fight money laundering. They also agreed to promote participation in training courses and seminars.
