Gomaa beats Al Qattan in first round

Manama : Egyptian top seed Mohammed Gomaa defeated Bahrain’s Hassan Al Qattan 6-0, 6-0 in the first round of the boys Eight Bahrain International Tennis Federation (ITF) Championships yesterday at the Bahrain Tennis Club (BTC) in Juffair.

In other matches involving Bahrain players, fifth seeded Ali Dawani was a straight sets 6-3, 6-4 winner over Kuwaiti Abdulaziz Redha, Aaryan Zaveri of India beat Bahrain’s Hamad Abdul A’al 6-2, 6-0, Turkey’s Ali Gulen was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Bahraini Youssef Ashraf and compatriot Elyas Abdulnabi got the better of Indian Rahul Jaideep with a 6-2, 6-2 win.

In the girls first round, Bahrain’s Ridah Nayeemullah was a 7-6(5) 6-3 over India’s Rhea Singh, while top seed Hala Khaled of Egypt and second seed Hala Fouad received byes into the second round of 16.
