Hearing begins in cop murder attempt case
Manama : The High Criminal Court began yesterday hearing the case of 17 men implicated in attempting to murder a police captain in Sitra last May.
The defendants lured the police captain into an area in Sitra on May 22, 2016 and fired several shots towards him. Only 11 of the accused men are in police custody, and the remaining defendants are still at large.
According to court files, the accused reportedly formed a terrorist cell with the aim of murdering police officers. Prosecutors say that several members of the cell were trained on using explosives and arms.
The defendants, during questioning, admitted to the charges. They have been accused of forming and joining a terrorist cell.
However, the defendants in custody pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.The next hearing has been scheduled for November 21.
