Surge in public transportation

ManamaThe number of passengers using the public transportation system has witnessed a surge, according to Undersecretary for Land Transport and Post Affairs, Engineer Mariam Ahmed Juman.

“The first phase of operations started by February 15, 2015 and the maximum passengers per day has increased from 46,500 to 72,500 till date. The total number of passengers has reached 15,500,000 since the start of the service,” she added.

“With the launch of the new smart card media campaign “Go Card”, and other ITS systems,the second phase of operations has covered 77pc of population compared to 35pc in the previous phase,” she said.

The Department also plans to launch a  Bahrain bus app later this year, according to Borja Bermudez, General Manager.
