United we stand

ManamaBahrain backs the utilisation of all capabilities to protect the security of the GCC countries, said His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa yesterday as the Kingdom hosted the first GCC Joint Security Exercise.

The Arabian Gulf Security 1 drill, which commenced yesterday with the participation of UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait, is in line with the resolutions of the GCC leaders.

Addressing the participants, HM the King stressed that the joint exercise represents an ambitious turning point in the cooperation of Gulf countries.

King Hamad applauded the readiness of the GCC security forces and said this exercise reflects Gulf consensus on goals and a unified destiny.

The exercise was inaugurated by Interior Minister Lt General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, who is the Commander of “Arabian Gulf Security 1” exercise, in the presence of heads of delegations of the GCC forces.

The Minister was received by Chief of Public Security and Head of Control Authority of the exercise, members of the Supreme Committee of the exercise and senior officers of the participating forces.

“As internal security is our national responsibility, the joint security of the GCC countries is our sole option, especially with the spread of terrorism and the need to enhance our countermeasures, capabilities and weaponry,” the Minister said.

“This exercise is an opportunity to increase field coordination and identify strengths and weaknesses so that we may enhance our cooperation and strategies in different security units and departments,” he added.

Interior Minister inspected the guard of honour, some of the activities of the participating forces and the main preparations to enhance the security performance.

The exercise aims to reinforce joint security procedures, enhance readiness of security forces and enhance field coordination.

A number of police aviation choppers and maritime vessels participated in the performance.
