EDB scouts for more Indian firms

ManamaEconomic Development Board (EDB) has been making more visits to India than ever before to attract Indian companies to Bahrain, said EDB Managing Director Simon Galpin.

A delegation from the EDB held several meetings with a number of Indian companies in recent weeks to convince Indian companies to invest in Bahrain. “ICT, Financial services, tourism and leisure, manufacturing and logistics were some of the sectors that investment were sought,” Galpin said.

“The response was very good.We spoke to a number of companies, including existing investors, and major companies looking to expand. I feel that there is tremendous scope for us to develop our relationship,” he said.

Galpin further added that the investment and trade ties with India is improving. “India is a major component on a pipeline of the total number of companies that are interested in setting up companies in Bahrain,” he said.

“There are tremendous opportunities for us to attract companies from India, and provide a platform for existing companies in Bahrain to expand and upgrade their presence. We
can also attract Indian companies from Dubai to the Kingdom, because in some areas Bahrain can be  40pc less expensive than Dubai,” he added.
