Missing expat found

Manama : People in Bahrain are being warned against accepting lifts from complete strangers.

Recently an expat who tried to hitch a ride to Hamad Town was apparently attacked and robbed of his belongings. Indian Aliyaru Kunju Nissarudeen was later dumped in a remote area in Jurdab from where he was found last night.

The 36-year-old was reported missing since Wednesday (October 26) and a nation-wide search was launched to find him.

Mr Nissarudeen, who stays in Gudaibiya, told his roommate that he was going to Hamad Town to meet a friend.

After that there has been no word from him, said his brother Naushad who is also in Bahrain.

The news was also widely circulated in social media requesting help from the public for any information that may lead to him.

According to Mr Nissarudeen, he was offered a lift by two strangers in a car. The men then attacked him and took away his money and mobile phones.

The victim later found himself in a remote area in Jurdab.

He had no means to contact his family or friends. He approached a cold store in the area and sought help to contact his wife who lives in India with their two children (the man hails from south Indian state of Kerala) who passed on Naushad’s contact to the shop staff.

According to sources the victim is now in a state of mental shock and it may take him some time to recollect the exact details of the incident.

However his relatives do not wish to pursue a case since his family wants him back home immediately.

Meanwhile social workers have advised people against accepting free lifts from complete strangers in order to save some money.
