Bahrain ideal for WWE: Kurt Angle
Manama : World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is interested in coming to the Middle East, and Bahrain is a preferred destination, said Kurt Angle, one of the most celebrated wrestlers from WWE and in World Wrestling Federation’s (WWF) history.
“WWE is just a phone call away from coming to Bahrain,” the Olympic gold medallist told DT News in an exclusive interview.
Angle was in Bahrain as a celebrity guest to the pop culture event IGN Convention, which took place recently.
“I feel very soon WWE would be coming here at least three times a year. There is no dearth of money and loyal fans here. The thing is if WWE can make money, they will come. They have tried in other countries. In India, there are many passionate fans. If any country is passionate, India is probably the most passionate. But in many parts in India there is not much money,” he said.
According to Angle, Bahrain is an attractive option for WWE owing to the young fan-base. “WWE has been travelling to every part of the world. They have not really done a show in this part of the world.”
“WWE could come to Bahrain, Kuwait or Dubai but Bahrain has the most possibility as the youth here are more energetic and doing things probably better than their peers in other countries. It’s just a matter of making a phone call. Both sides need to come together. Once it does, the possibilities are endless,” he explained. “When I say WWE is just one phone call away, I mean it. It’s just a matter of who is going to take the initiative.”
Angle, who won the Olympic gold medal in freestyle wrestling in 1996, also shared some advice for the budding wrestlers in Bahrain.
“At the outset, find a good trainer, somebody who knows what they are doing. Then find a great place to train. Whether you are a fighter or a pro-wrestler what you need is experience, and sometimes the best way to do that is to go elsewhere,” Angle noted.
“For example, when I wrestled in the Olympics, I had to travel to Russia to wrestle because that was the best place. So I raised money for my travel to Russia,” he recalled.
