Appreciating art through Visions 2016

ManamaAmerican Women’s Association (AWA), an active and diverse association that brings together women from around the globe, will hold the Visions 2016 Art Exhibition, showcasing art and photography, at Swiss-Belhotel Seef.

The two-day entry-free exhibition will open on November 25 at 7pm and conclude on November 26 at 7pm. All pieces exhibited will be on sale.

Each art project is a reflection of their personal styles, subjects and approaches, said the organisers, adding that a wide variety of styles, from realism to pure abstraction, will be presented.

The event is held with an aim to showcase the diverse talents of AWA artists and raise money for its community service fund. Annually AWA donates an average of BD30,000 to charities in the Kingdom.

AWA art exhibition Visions 2016 is the seventh edition of the annual charitable event, where all profits will go to local charities.

The idea of Visions was founded by AWA member Jacqueline de Freitas over nine years ago to provide an opportunity for several talented women, members of AWA, to display their artwork as a group. The first AWA Art exhibition was held in 2008 in Arabesque gallery in Om Naasan. Since the first art exhibition was a great success, it was decided that this could be an annual event, given the name Visions. The first Visions art exhibition was in 2009. With its success, they decided to turn it into a fundraising event and also added photographers to the group. What makes this a unique event is that each artist has her own inspiration and her own collection of artwork, the organisers stated.

When asked how positive she felt about results, AWA Art Group Chairperson Irina Averinos told DT News, “We have always received very positive feedback from visitors and this year too, we are expecting the same as before. It is always nice, not just to like the picture but also to meet the artist and know about the painting. Buying an artwork is like buying a part of the artist’s soul and all her happiness. We invite all art lovers, photographers and artists to visit our exhibition and enjoy viewing our artwork.”
