Philippines declared overall champion

Manama : The Philippine Embassy and the Filipino Community in Bahrain participated in the First ASEAN Table Tennis Tournament held at the National Stadium, Isa Town, Bahrain, on Friday.

Total 64 players from the ASEAN Communities of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines participated in the tournament. The four teams competed in knock-out games. 

Team Philippines won the championship with a total score of 16 points, while the second and third places went to the Team of Malaysia, which scored 5 points, and Indonesia, with a total score of 3 points, respectively.

Team Philippines dominated the events, winning first and second places both in the Women’s Singles and Doubles Categories and first place in the Men’s Doubles Category. In the Men’s Singles Category, which was won by Malaysia, the Philippines won second and third places. The Table Tennis event is part of the series played between and among the five ASEAN member states that have missions in the Kingdom. Prior to this event, the PHL Embassy hosted the first ASEAN Badminton Tournament held on October 21 at the Muharraq Sports Club.

The other sporting events to be held are Volleyball and Football which are tentatively scheduled on November 18 and December 1 respectively.

ASEAN Games is held under the patronage of Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
