Al Sammak thrashes Rafeei on opening day
Manama : Isa Al Sammak needed to work hard to win his first round men’s singles match 6-2, 2-6, 10-3 against Eyad Rafeei on the opening day of the 30th Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) Tennis Championships at the Bahrain Tennis Club premises in Juffair.
In other matches, Hameed Janahii came from a set down to win 4-6, 6-4, 11-9, Ebrahim Qaed beat Fahad Al Mahmeed 6-2, 7-6(3), Mauricio Almberto was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Ghazi Subai, Ghulam Mohammed got the better of Faisal Sharif 7-6(10), 6-1 and Alexander Dimic received a walkover win from Hussain A Latif.
In veterans men’s over 45 singles, Farzam Kazerooni was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Naqvi Zahid, K Somanathan beat Morsi Magdi 6-4, 6-1, Teddy was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Fateh Ekici, Uday Shanbhag got the better of Lee Niemeyer 6-1, 6-0 and Sami Samaco was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over Jeronimo Malihay.
In women’s doubles action, Ching Abande and Abby Pelagio were 6-3, 6-3 beat Ana Hernandez and Michelle Pedro.
