Student flees: Guards sacked

Manama : Two public school guards were dismissed for failing to fulfil their duties, after a second grader escaped school without them noticing.

The decision was announced by Education Ministry yesterday after the girl student was reported missing from Al Daih Elementary and Intermediate Girls’ School on Tuesday.

“Minister of Education, Dr. Majid Al Nuaimi has approved the recommendations of the special investigative committee into the incident of the student missing during school timings,”
the Ministry’s Public Relations and Media Directorate mentioned in a statement.

The statement also said that the carelessness from the part of the guards resulted in a threat to the child’s safety.

According to reports published by an Arabic daily and several social media networks, the girl exited the school through the backdoor, which was not monitored at that time. She reportedly walked a long distance, while trying to go home.

She was found roaming near Khalifa bin Salman Highway near Seef Mall by a woman who took her back to the school. According to the reports, the mother of the child demanded an immediate investigation into the incident to prevent such occurrences from repeating.

The Directorate’s statement also stressed on the Ministry’s keenness in ensuring students’ safety and that it won’t spare any efforts in taking deterrent procedures against those who fail to perform their school duties.
