Huawei nurtures ICT talents
Manama : Huawei Bahrain, global Information and Communications Technology (ICT) solutions provider, has launched the first local edition of its successful global CSR flagship programme “Seeds for the Future”.
As part of the initiative, Bahrain’s top eight undergraduates from University of Bahrain, Bahrain Polytechnic and Ahlia University have been selected for an all-expense-paid two-week study trip to China, courtesy of Huawei Bahrain.
The students were inducted into the study trip at a recognition ceremony attended by the representatives from the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Bahrain (TRA), the Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB), the Chinese Embassy and the management of the participating universities.
“We believe that education is the key to creating opportunities that will drive Bahrain’s digital transformation and support the development of a sustainable economy aligned with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030,” said Feng Nan Paul, Country Manager of Huawei Bahrain.
The two-week study trip ending November 17th will see the students travelling through Beijing and Shenzhen to gain knowledge and insights on the latest technology innovations, as well as direct access to mentorship and hands-on experience at Huawei’s headquarters.
In a speech given at the recognition ceremony, TRA Chairman Dr. Mohammed Ahmed Al Amer said, “ICT is a fast changing field, which requires us to be adaptable in learning about and taking on new technologies.”
Commenting on the programme, Chief Executive of EDB Khalid Al Rumaihi, “As the regional ICT sector is expected to grow by more than 10 per cent per annum over the next five years, investing in the local workforce will reap great rewards for companies using Bahrain as a base to access customers across the GCC. Huawei’s ‘Seeds for the Future’ is exactly the kind of development program we hope to see more of in the future.”
