Drag racing legends set for Pro Mod battles
Manama : Some of the biggest names in all of drag racing have brought in their talents from overseas to compete at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) this week in the 2016/2017 Bahrain Drag Racing Championship.
Legends such as Gary White, Rickie Smith, Steve Jackson, Pat Musi and Lizzy Musi are just a handful of the more popular names who have come from the US to battle it out at the world-class, NHRA-sanctioned quarter-mile drag strip of BIC.
They all will be racing in the highly competitive Pro Mod category as the new season gets underway with round one this week.
Teams had two days of testing on Tuesday and Wednesday, and yesterday qualifying with the race today with the legendary icons of drag racing.
Gary White of E K Kanoo Racing Team said, “This year, the Pro Mod class is very exciting. Our team has got a new Lexus, which will be driven by my teammate Khaled Mohammed, and just to be associated with that car is amazing – it’s going to be a car that changes the landscape of Pro Mod racing – a twin-turbo clutch car that will be just something really special.”
Speaking on the level of competition he will be facing in the Pro Mod, White adds: “From what I can tell, the amount of cars racing in the Pro Mod this year, it’s going to be very exciting – probably as exciting as it’s been racing anywhere. The names that I see are amazing. It’ll be very hard to win.”
Bahrain1Racing Team will be one of the E K Kanoo team’s chief rivals. One of the central figures spearheading their campaign is 11-time world champion Rickie Smith.
