The Asian School celebrates Founder’s Day
The Asian School celebrated the first Founder’s Day on November 2nd, 2016, which marked the dedication and sacrifices of Founder Chairman Joseph Thomas that went into the raising of the school and commemorates a significant annual milestone to reflect on the school’s activities, achievements, developments and innovations and above all helps to revisit the visions for the future. It was also most befitting that the school’s first Founder’s Day be held on the 70th milestone birthday of the Chairman.
Students organised a special programme to honour the Founder for providing them with an exemplary institution with a wonderful atmosphere to be educated in. The programme began with a special prayer by one of the longest serving teachers of the school Gracyamma Koshy. The Principal Molly Mammen delivered the welcome address and both she and Timmy Joseph draped him with the customary silk shawl ‘ponnada’ as a sign of respect and honour.
A special birthday song composed by Music Teacher Savio D’Costa was sung and teachers presented a bouquet and cards. The highlight of the show was a skit performed by the teachers, ‘Down Memory Lane’ which depicted the journey of the school from inception till date.
Junior students performed a dance on an old Hindi number, “Baar Baar Din Yeh Aaye”. Senior Students performed ‘Guru Vandanam’, a classical Indian dance which honours the ‘guru’ or teacher. The school orchestra played a few numbers for the enjoyment of the audience.
Head Boy Devarsh Mehra addressed the gathering and on behalf of the school expressed his gratitude to the Founder Chairman Joseph Thomas for establishing the school. Head Girl Adona Maria Shibu proposed the vote of thanks.
The Chairman thanked the students and teachers for the love and affection showered on him. He recounted the journey of the school from 1983 to the present and gave due credit to the persons of the staff who supported him in his endeavour to provide quality education.
