Mobile phone theft: Jail terms of duo reduced
Manama : Two security officers convicted of theft have had their jail terms slashed on appeal. The duo were charged with stealing the handbag of a British woman in Juffair at the night of June 13 last year.
The convicts, aged 31 and 38 are said to have attacked the woman from behind and snatched her bag which contained BD10, an iPhone and a mobile phone. The woman suffered bruises during the fight.
According to court files, her phone was having an application designed to give the location of the phone in case it was stolen. The mobile was found on display in a mobile shop.
“I requested the CCTV image of the person who sold the phone, from the shop owner which I gave to the police,” the woman said during questioning.
The pair was later apprehended and they admitted to the crime. They also told prosecutors that they stole two other bags in the same night.
The duo were earlier handed down five years in prison. But the High Criminal Appeals Court commuted their jail terms to 3 years in prison each.
