Second edition of HM King’s agro award launched

ManamaThe second edition of ‘The King Hamad Award for Agricultural Development’ was launched during a press conference at Isa Cultural Centre yesterday.

It was launched at the initiative of Wife of His Majesty the King and Supreme Council for Women Chairwoman HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, who is also the Chairperson of the Consultative Council of the National Imitative for Agricultural Development (NIAD).

“The award aims to create positive competitive environment among owners of agricultural projects and farmers as well as researchers in the agrarian field. This will enhance the standard of agricultural sector along with industrial and services sectors,” said Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, NIAD Secretary-General.

The heads of the judging panel gave a detailed presentation of the award’s three categories, including the aims of the award, the terms and conditions for applying and the value of the award. 

The head of the Best Agricultural Project Committee, Dr. Fuad Al Ansari, explained the importance of this award in encouraging agricultural projects. 

The head of the Best Bahraini Farmer Committee, Dr. Thuraya Al Mansoori, said, “This award is given to the best Bahraini farmer, in recognition for his efforts and contribution to the development of the agricultural sector in the Kingdom.” 

Participation in the contest is open to anyone interested, from entrepreneurs, farmers, and researchers who meet the requirements, where each applicant is eligible to participate in only one of the three categories. The registration will commence on November 20, 2017.
