Man steals TV for ‘spying on him’

ManamaA Gulf national stole a screen from a bathroom of a five-star hotel in Manama recently, thinking it was secretly filming him while taking a shower.

This emerged after a two-minute video was widely circulated on social networks during the past two days with the person behind the camera warning the public, after he alleged that he found a camera hidden behind the bathroom mirror in one of the rooms of The Domain Hotel, even though he pronounced the hotel’s name as “Diamond” in the footage.

The man mentioned that he made his “discovery” while preparing to take a shower. He claimed that he noticed a small lamp near the mirror (screen). The man then removed the screen from the wall and he was more insisting that it was a spying camera after seeing the wires connecting the screen through the wall.

Anyhow, a sticker mentioning that the screen was an “LCD TV” was clear in different parts of the video while the claimer persisted to say it was filming him.

This was strongly denied and condemned by the hotel’s management, who mentioned in a press statement issued yesterday that a case was filed against the guest, who ended up stealing the screen.

“The culprit not only damaged our reputation, but also found it amusing to steal the Bath TV from our guest room. We are taking legal actions against this person for making false and malicious allegations on our reputation and criminal damage to our property,” the Domain Hotel said in its statement, clarifying that the screen was only a bathroom TV.

“We have Bath TVs in all our guest bathrooms to enhance guest experience whilst staying with us.  As part of our routine procedures, Interior Ministry was contacted and a thorough check was conducted. We have received the clearance from the Ministry with regards to this issue. We would like to assure all guests checking into our hotel that their safety, privacy and comfort are of our absolute utmost priority,” the statement added.

Security authorities in the country did not comment on the incident or the individual involved. However, sources informed that he was a Saudi national who was staying for two days at the hotel as he mentioned in the video.
