Defaming ex-wife: MP’s sentence cancelled
Manama : The High Criminal Appeals Court has cancelled two sentences issued against a current Parliamentary member who was found guilty in two cases filed by his ex wife.
Judges stated that the defendant couldn’t be tried as per the local laws, which protect him against any legal action.
The MP was earlier sentenced to nine months behind bars for publishing an image of his ex-wife in a sleepshirt. He was also fined BD150 for beating her.
According to court files, the woman filed a complaint accusing him of sending the image to her father, brother and her son from a different man. He attached the image with insults against her and her son as well.
The MP has been also charged with robbery, as the woman and her mother told prosecutors that he had stolen three watches from their house, including a BD4,000 Rolex and a laptop. The Lower Criminal Court fined the MP 150 for his offences.
